What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an ancient medical system that was first developed in China many thousands of years ago. Still popular today, the benefits of acupuncture are felt by millions of people worldwide.

During an acupuncture treatment very fine needles are inserted into the skin in specific points along meridians – energy lines. This is often a very pleasant experience and should produce a mild tingling sensation.

The stresses and strains of modern life mean that we are often left feeling out of balance and unwell. Acupuncture differs from western medicine in that it aims to treat the whole and to restore balance to the body and mind. This means that the root cause of symptoms are found and treated but patients overall sense of wellbeing is also improved as natural balance is restored.
